IS YOUR SCIATICA SO BAD YOU CAN BARELY WALK, AND ARE TERRIFIED AT THE THOUGHT OF SURGERY IN YOUR FUTURE?

If your sciatica is giving you agonizing pain right now, I understand how debilitating it can be.

After nearly a decade of working with sciatica sufferers in El Paso, Texas, I’ve seen people struggling to walk, dependent on strong pain medications, and being told by their doctors that nothing else could be done.

But there is hope! There are lots of natural ways to ease, even completely end sciatica without injections or risky surgical procedures.

WHAT IS SCIATICA?

Sciatica is a common condition affecting millions of people all over the world and is often connected to lower back pain. Sciatica is most common in people in their 30s, 40s and 50s, but it can happen at just about any age.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF SCIATICA?

Sciatica symptoms cause agonizing pain anywhere the nerve goes from the lower back down the back of the hip and thigh (most common place it hurts!), down to the lower leg and foot. It’s very possible to also feel numbness, tingling and muscle cramps in the same areas.

WHAT CAUSES SCIATICA

Sciatica is caused by compression, or pinching, on the sciatic nerve. Because the nerve runs from the lower back all the way down to the toes, there are many possible places that the nerve can be pinched. This means that there are many different causes of sciatica.

We call these different types of sciatica. There’s the lower back sciatica, hip sciatica (most common), thigh sciatica, calf sciatica, and foot sciatica. Each type of sciatica has a different cause that must be treated differently. And it’s possible to have more than one type of sciatica happening at the same time.

This is poorly understood by the majority of healthcare professionals. They focus on the lower back when it comes to sciatica because that’s what can easily be seen on an MRI and then operated on.

If a surgeon spots a herniated disc pinching the sciatic nerve, naturally the surgeon will recommend an operation to go in and cut a piece of the disc off to un-pinch the nerve.

But what if there is also hip or thigh sciatica going on? Could it be possible that the surgeon missed the main problem?

In every sciatica patient we see, there are muscle imbalances that need to be corrected in order to resolve the specific type of sciatica the patient has.

SCIATICA TREATMENT OPTIONS

When it comes to long-term sciatica pain relief, correcting the muscle imbalances is necessary. There are usually 2-3 key muscle groups that have not been working well. Once those muscle groups get more strength and better coordination, combined with specialized hands-on manual therapist treatment, you will feel gradually more normal each visit.

The problem with treatments from doctors is that they focus on symptom management with medications and injections.

Physical therapists usually treat people recovering from surgery, so they are nearly always unsure what to do for sciatica, and they’ve usually never heard that there are different types of sciatica.

Chiropractors just want to pop people all the time and rarely if ever pay attention to correcting muscle imbalances.

Surgeons are looking for something they can operate on. And they heavily focus on the lower back…even if the main area you have pain is the back of the hip and thigh. They often miss the root cause of sciatica and sometimes leave patients worse off in a situation that cannot be reversed.
